It is completely meaningless since a DVD movie is made up of several 1GB VOB chunks and no one in their right mind would keep opening the next VOB every half hour - which is why IFOs exist, since theoretically it directs the DVD software as to which VOB to play in what order.PowerDVD 9 is simply the best video playback software for enjoying HD and Blu-ray movies. Which is GREAT, expect for the fact that I dont want to open VOB files directly. I have also associated VOBs with PowerDVD.Īnd if I double click a VOB, PowerDVD opens, runs and starts playing the video automatically. So associating IFOs with PowerDVD is a no go for use with a front end, unless theres some tip or trick I need to do. You have to go through the whole process of telling PowerDVD to open a DVD file, and then search for the file on your hard drive. In fact, it doesnt even load anything, so its not just a matter of, OK, now the IFO is loaded, just press play in PowerDVD to start it - NOPE. I have IFOs associated with PowerDVD through windows, so when I "double click" on the IFO, PowerDVD starts up.īUT it doesnt automatically start playing the movie. Then by pressing a single button on the remote, its essentially like double clicking that IFO files icon in winblows explorer. What you want, is to have your front end make a list of your IFO files, from which you select through your remote control.
The problem is that with Meedio or any front end, you dont want to open a DVD player, and then take out a mouse to select a DVD folder to open. I tell powerDvd to open a DVD from the HDD, and then select the IFO, it opens and works amazingly well. Oh, if I wasnt clear about this, let me clarify - If I POINT powerDVD at something it works fine. I forget the name of the program, but I did a hard drive search for the title and a registry search, removed all traces, and this prompt still comes up.

One option would be to convert my Movies Partition over to NTFS and rerip all my movies and recompress all my television show DVDs, but tell it to make it one large VOB file (because FAT32 doesnt mega large files, so you have to break down into 1GB chunks). Except I am not going to manually open PowerDVD each time. PowerDVD does work in the sense that if I open the program up, and tell it to open a DVD from the hard drive, and find the IFO, it will start playing the whole DVD. Right now I have to say that Power DVD sucks, because the ONE SINGLE thing that I want it to do, it doesnt do.Īnd that would be if I associate the IFO file type to open with PowerDVD, it doesnt automatically start playing the movie - which of course is problematic when using a HTPC and a nice front end like meedio where you want to find the file and play it without all sorts excess button presses or mouse required.
I made a thread earlier in the week and no one really made any suggestion other than buy Theatretek or Zoom player.
